Moving Parts: Puppet Film Festival Ident Brief
Project type
Animation
Date
March 2026
Location
Sunderland
This was my submission for the Moving Parts Puppet Film Festival Ident brief. This was an opportunity presented to students at my university. I had found out about the brief when it was set earlier in the year but did not attempt it because at the time I did not know how to animate and considered this brief irrelevant to my practice.
However, I learnt to use Adobe After Effects at the start of March and was recommended by a lecturer to participate in this brief. Unfortunately at this point I had only 3 days to create an ident. Being only a week into learning animation and with no experience of this style of work I was quite intimidated but immediately dove in. I began by thumbnailing ideas and creating a very rough and quick storyboard.
I was then able to splice assets (some of this had to be done from pre-existing images, such as the hero image) this was a challenge as it added more time considerably. I worked on constructing my theatre scene asset in Photoshop before combining and animating everything in After Effects. It took about 14 hours total to complete this project (including audio management) and with some advice from a lecturer proficient in After Effects and a friend in media production, I was able to produce A result I was happy with.
Had I had more time and experience I would have loved to go in, remix the audio, up the resolution of some of the assets and fix one or two keyframes of movement I was not happy with. But for a first attempt at an ident I am most pleased!
I was lucky enough for this to be chosen to play before screenings of the 2026 Moving Parts Arts "Puppet Film Festival". I am exceedingly grateful for the opportunity and honoured to have my work play at Tyneside Cinema!
